Care to Share Program - Wheat's Landscape Student Volunteer Scholarship

Care to Share Program

We enjoy giving back to the community to make a difference in the lives of local homeowners and various local organizations. Our very own Care to Share program allows us the opportunity reach out to individuals who are physically or financially unable to maintain their landscape, by donating time and basic materials in cleaning up and enhancing their landscape.

Do you know of a local elderly, handicapped, or military family who could use our helping hand? Let us know by sending an email to wheats@wheats.com. You are also welcome to write us or give us a call.

Additionally, our staff members actively volunteer with local volunteer fire departments, youth sports, community-sponsored events, local schools and the government to support a wide range of charitable efforts. Wheat's has been serving the community for over 30 years.

Read our latest News & Events to find out the exciting activities and contributions we've made in the community this season.

Wheat's Landscape 2008 Student Volunteer Scholarship

Our desire to give back to the community stimulated the idea to establish a scholarship for outstanding community service among high school seniors. The purpose of Wheat's Landscape Student Volunteer Scholarship is to encourage and reward senior high school students who actively volunteer in community service. Offered once per calendar year, one senior student is chosen to receive our $2,500 Student Volunteer Scholarship award for their community service involvement.

In determining the scholarship recipient, the following criteria are equally considered:

  • Active participation in community service groups and/or projects
  • Ongoing long term involvement in community service groups and/or projects
  • Community recognition and/or rewards received based on service
  • Community leadership roles taken on by individuals
  • Active participation in student and/or community committees relating to service

  • Proof of graduating senior status (photocopy of student ID card, report card, or class schedule)
  • High school must be located McLean, Great Falls, Vienna, Oakton, North Arlington or Falls Church

Letters of recommendation from at least two professional references are required and may be submitted by faculty members, community leaders, mentors, and/or parent. References should be well acquainted with the nominee and have a good understanding of the nominee's qualifications. All references should comment on the nominee in light of the above-mentioned criteria. The name, title, and contact information (telephone number and email address) should be noted on each recommendation letter.
